Genco, Nico Nico Douga Streams Charawood Anime Shorts
posted on by Egan Loo
Niwango, a subsidary of the Dwango Internet company that operates on Japan's Nico Nico Douga video-sharing service, has began streaming the Charawood character anime shorts from the GENCO studio on Nico Nico Douga. (Japanese registration is required.) Charawood (short for "Character Hollywood") is the collective name for the original mascot characters that GENCO, the animation studio behind Honey and Clover and Absolute Boyfriend, created in-house. GENCO plans to license the characters to other companies for product campaigns and items. Most of these shorts have been previously available on other online streaming services, but not on a service that is readily accessible outside Japan.
The characters include the Bandaru-Iseijin alien protector of Earth, the standoffish princess Sokodokehime who is looking to make friends, the mobile-phone-chatting dolphin MobIruka, the tofu-shaped Yakkohan sisters, the paper-thin Usuperars quartet, and the elephant detective Nazonazō.
