Musical shōjo Nodame, La Corda d'Oro hit high notes
Classical music and shōjo anime may be faltering in popularity in North America, but they prove to be a dynamic duo in Japan. Not only do the classically-trained Nodame Cantabile and La Corda D'Oro - primo passo IV take the #1 and #3 spots (separated only by the American CG movie Open Season), but the not so musically inclined, but still unabashedly shōjo fantasy of The Story of Saiunkoku trails not far behind at #7. Besides having a "moving" multi-frame cover art gimmick of the lead male character Chiaki waving his conducting baton, the Nodame Cantabile #2 DVD also includes a video that reveals the "secret" of how the musical performance scenes were animated.
