Studio Ghibli Opens Ghibli Museum Library
posted on by Jonathan Mays
Studio Ghibli will release western animation in theaters and on DVD in Japan under a new Ghibli Museum Library label. Although Ghibli has previously released works like Sylvain Chomet's Triplettes de Belleville and Michel Ocelot's Kirikou, this is the first time that they have established a regular channel through which to distribute foreign animation.
The first Ghibli Museum Library theatrical release will be Aleksandr Petrov's latest film, My Love. The film will premiere March 13 under the title Haru no Mezame. Goro Miyazaki is managing a Petrov exhibition at the Ghilbli Museum, his first Ghibli project since Gedo Senki.
Paul Grimault's Le Roi et L'Oiseau will be the first Ghibli Museum Library DVD. The disc will be released April 4 in 2 and 3-disc editions. Neither is expected to have English subtitles. Ghibli Museum has posted a trailer for the release here.
Ghibli Museum has also debuted its new website with a post by Kiyofumi Nakajima, who succeeded Goro Miyazaki as the museum's director.
