Doraemon at World Figure Skating Championships
posted on by Christopher Macdonald
Mao Asada, who became the female world figure skating champion in Japan this week held a large stuffed Doraemon on TV as her scores for the freestyle program were read. Last week Asada, who is only 15, became the first female ever to complete two triple axles in a program. Asada however is not expected to compete in the February Olympics. She turned 15 in September and the eligibility rules require that all skaters turn 15 no later than June of the year preceding the Olympics.
Our original post, above, contains an error. The event in question was not the World Figure Skating Championships, but rather the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final. As such, Asada did not become world champion by winning the event.
