Montreal Film Festival cancelled due to disrepair of venue
Montreal's Fantasia Film festival, best known for its live action asian movies but also renowned for Anime showings, will not take place this year.
Festival Organizers announced on Thursday that the 2002 festival would be cancelled due to the severe disrepair of the festival's venue, Montreal's Imperial Cinema. The cinema is currently undergoing renovation that were expected to be completed on time for the festival, however delays have caused the completion date of the repairs to be pushed back past the festivals sheduled run. The main concern was the theatres air conditioning system, the AC failed at last year's festival and forced many movie-goers to vacate the cinema's balcony which became unbearably hot during the July heat wave.
"We want to reassure our public [that] Fantasia will return in 2003," stated festival founder Pierre Corbeil.
Over the years Fantasia has shown international and North American premiers of films such as Jin-Roh, Perfect Blue, Final Fantasy, Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust, X/1999 and more...
