London Rapper Creates Song For Crunchyroll Autumn Anime Trailer
posted on by Andrew Osmond
Crunchyroll has posted the above trailer for the Autumn 2023 anime season, featuring a new song, "Lifetime," by the South London rapper Che Lingo. This is the first time that the Crunchyroll platform has released a song to support its content.
The full version of the song can be heard on multiple platforms, including Spotify and Apple Music, at this link. The anime featured on the Crunchyroll trailer include SPY x FAMILY, One Piece, Jujutsu Kaisen, Dr. Stone: New World, Frieren: Beyond Journey's End, The Ancient Magus Bride, Goblin Slayer and others.
The song was created by Che Lingo in collaboration with the Japanese musician Miku Nakamura, who is a member of the experimental band Cö shu Nie, and who sings part of "Lifetime."
Both artists were previously featured on the Jujutsu Kaisen Season One OST. Che Lingo was one of the artists heard on the series' track “Be Prepared,” while Nakamura's band Cö shu Nie writing the ending theme, "give it back."
In a five-and-a-half minute Behind The Scenes video posted on YouTube, Che Lingo says that the song is themed around epic battle, dark fantasy and adventure. He recalls watching Naruto: "When people were upset with each other, and then they would fight, and then they would still have a love for each other, and all these different principles that made it easy for you to go through adversity and still come out with positives."
He says that the way that anime makes going through adversity positive is the reason why anime resonates with non-Asian cultures, and especially black cultures.
Nakamura also appears in the Behind The Scenes video, below. (If the subtitles for her comments do not come up, press the "CC" tab.)
