Vinland Saga Vikings Enjoy Saga Prefecture's Bounty
posted on by Lynzee Loveridge
Saga prefecture has enjoyed a successful collaboration with Zombie Land Saga and to a lesser extent, Sega. The prefecture has also set its sights on another Saga-anime, Wit Studio's historical viking drama Vinland Saga.
The collaboration is part of the larger Saga Prefecture Regional Revitalization Project, "Sagaprise!" A series of visuals show Thorfinn and his fellow vikings enjoying regional specialties like eel goby and Karatsu Q mackerel.

Askeladd wears a chest piece based on porcelain Arita ware.

The collaboration's main event, the "Great Voyage Mystery Stamp Rally'', will kick off on October 3 and run until October 18 in Akihabara. Winners will receive stickers and clear files. On October 3, Akiba Square will sell Vinland Saga merchandise and goods from Saga prefecture.
Vinland Saga voice actor Kenichirō Matsuda also participated in the campaign by providing narration for a collaboration video showing the unique aspects of Saga prefecture. Matsuda voices Thorfinn's father, Thors, in the anime series. In the video, the viking has adopted a Saga prefecture dialect.
The campaigns official website is holding a character vote for the five characters participating in the collaboration until October 31. Voters are entered in a chance to win the Saga prefecture products shown above. Details aren't available yet, but the site also has sections for talk event and a "voyage map."
The television anime of Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga manga premiered with the first three episodes on July 7. The anime streams exclusively on Amazon Prime Video both in Japan and overseas.
Kodansha Comics began publishing the manga series in North America in 2013, and it describes the story:
Thorfinn is son to one of the Vikings' greatest warriors, but when his father is killed in battle by the mercenary leader Askeladd, he swears to have his revenge. Thorfinn joins Askeladd's band in order to challenge him to a duel, and ends up caught in the middle of a war for the crown of England. From the creator of the classic Planetes manga comes this epic, highly-anticipated tale.
The show will run for 24 episodes.
