Shinkai's Weathering With You Film Gets 2nd Suntory Ad

SUNTORY began streaming a new tie-up commercial with Makoto Shinkai's Weathering With You film on Monday. The new ad has a unique version of the film's theme "Ai ni Dekiru koto wa Mada Arukai (Is there still anything that love can do?)" by RADWIMPS. Voice actors Kotarō Daigo (Hodaka Morishima) and Nana Mori (Hina Amano) perform the cover. SUNTORY notes that the song is completely limited to the ad.
Weathering With You opened in Japan on July 19. The film sold 1,159,020 tickets to earn 1,643,809,400 yen (about US$15.22 million) in its first three days at the box office. The film earned 28.6% more in its first three days compared to Shinkai's previous your name. film.
Shinkai confirmed that the film will get a worldwide release, and releases have already been decided for North America, Europe, Asia, and South America. GKIDS has licensed the film for North America, and will give the film an "awards qualifying" theatrical run this year before a wider screening with subtitles and an English dub in early 2020.

Director Toshimasa Ishii and Studio Orange's anime ad for Japanese retail company Marui Group is getting a limited theatrical run paired with the film.
