Studio Orange, Mirai Assistant Director's Marui Group Anime Ad Streamed
posted on by Lynzee Loveridge
Director Toshimasa Ishii and Studio Orange's anime ad for Japanese retail company Marui Group went live on Wednesday. The ad reunites Ishii and character designer Ayako Hata, who served as assistant director and animation director on the Oscar-nominated anime film Mirai, respectively.
The ad "Soba e" centers on a boy named Osamu who receives an umbrella as a gift from Sayu, but it goes missing. That umbrella transforms into a girl who goes gallivanting around town on a rainy day. Haruka Fukuhara (Kirakira ☆ Precure a la Mode) stars in the ad.
Moom art director Yoshihiro Nagasuna provided the conceptual art, Liz and the Blue Bird composer kensuke ushio scored the music, and Katsuhiro Takei and Kiyotaka Waki (Land of the Lustrous) produced the ad.
The Marui Group launched an anime division in 2016 and produced the short-form anime ads "Neko ga Kureta Marui Shiawase" (The Round Happiness a Cat Gave) in 2017 with Hal anime film director Ryōtarō Makihara.
Marui Group then expanded its vision to include voice actor and idol auditions last year. The winners were given the opportunity to appear in Marui Group's anime commercials.
