posted on by Lynzee Loveridge
The eighth annual Streamy Awards announced its nominees for the best of the best in digital content on Tuesday. This year the award's Blue Ribbon Panel included Crunchyroll's Anime Crimes Division web series and the Critical Role Dungeons and Dragons live-stream hosted and played by some of English dubs' biggest voice actors in its list of nominees.
Anime Crimes Division is competing in the Comedy Series division against Escape the Night, Grown, Liza on Demand, and Rhett & Link's Buddy System. The series stars SungWon Cho (also known as ProZD) as Agent Joe Furuya and Riley Rose Critchlow as newly-minted agent Diesel. Together, they solve anime-themed crimes in Neo Otaku City. SungWon Cho is also nominated separately in the Acting in a Comedy category.
The original live-action comedy series launched on Crunchyroll last year with three 10-minute episodes. The second season debuted on the streaming service on September 7. The show brings together RocketJump writer Darnell Murphy Jr. and director Freddie Wong.
Critical Role is competing in the Live Streamer category alongside Myth, NICKMERCS, Ninja, and Pokimane. The livestream launched in 2015 with voice actors Matthew Mercer as the group's dungeon master and players Liam O'Brien, Laura Bailey, Travis Willingham, Taliesin Jaffe, Marisha Ray, Orion Acaba, and Sam Riegel. The series is now in the midst of its second campaign full of magic, action, and intrigue.
The eighth annual Streamys award ceremony will be broadcast live on October 22.
