Singer Namie Amuro's One Piece Special Video Airs on TV
posted on by Lynzee Loveridge
Singer Namie Amuro is a frequent collaborator on The One Piece franchise. She sings the television anime's current theme song, "Hope" and previously performed songs for the series' special One Piece Special – Adventure of Nebulandia and last year's double episode special "A Heartbreaking Duel! Luffy vs Sanji!" However, Amuro's singing career is coming to an end. The artist announced she is retiring from music on September 16.
Amuro held her Japan-wide "Namie Amuro Final Tour 2018~Finally~" concerts from February to June. The concerts included a special animated video depicting Amuro hanging out with the Straw Hat crew. The video wasn't shown in any other venue, but it's going to air on Fuji TV channels on August 25 at 9:00 p.m. JST, alongside the One Piece: Episode of Skypiea special.
Viewers outside of Japan might get a chance to see the special, too. Toei Animation announced on its English-language Facebook account on Wednesday that the special will be available as a simulcast on Funimation, Crunchyroll, and AnimeLab following its Japanese broadcast. Streaming will be available in North America, Latin America, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa.
Besides her work for One Piece, Amuro also performed theme songs for InuYasha and Pokémon 2000 - The Movie anime, the 2016 live-action Death Note film, and collaborated with Hatsune Miku. Her concert DVDs have topped sales charts in Japan.
