Tokyo Big Sight Transit Station's Long Name Gets Easier in March 2019
posted on by Jennifer Sherman
Kokusai-tenjijō-seimon Station is where visitors to Tokyo Big Sight convention center typically disembark. The station is named after Tokyo Big Sight's official name of Tokyo Kokusai Tenjijō (Tokyo International Exhibition Center). However, that is about to chance as the station is set to receive a new name next March.
The station's tongue-twisting name will change to Tokyo Big Sight Station next spring, making it easier for convention center visitors who know the complex under its common name to know where to get off. The station is one of the more popular stops along New Transit Yurikamome, an automated guideway transit system that Tokyo Waterfront New Transit Corporation runs.
Yurikamome's Fune-no-kagakukan Station, which is three stops away from Kokusai-tenjijō-seimon Station, will also change its name to Tokyo Kokusai Cruise Terminal Station in March. The station is currently named after the local Museum of Maritime Science.
Tokyo Big Sight hosts some of Japan's biggest anime- and manga-related events, including Comic Market (Comiket) and AnimeJapan. The facility will also serve as the main press center and international broadcasting center for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics. Because of that, Comic Market 98 will be held during the Golden Week holidays in April and May instead of in the summer of 2020.
