CAPCOM began taking taking pre-orders on Friday for a solid gold medal to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Rockman/Mega Man game franchise.
The medal is shaped like a coin, and also comes with a chain attachment so buyers can also wear it as a necklace. The medal is 26mm (about an inch) in diameter, and weighs 20 grams (0.7 ounces). But the real kicker is the price. The 18-karat gold medal costs 350,000 yen (about US$3,115). CAPCOM is limiting the number of medals to 50.
For those with a bit smaller budget, CAPCOM is also selling a same-size silver medal with a pixel-art design (although it's still shaped like a coin) for a mere 15,000 yen (about US$134). CAPCOM is making 300 of the silver medals.
Both medals will ship to customers in late September.
Mega Man: Fully Charged, the new animated television series of the Mega Man (Rockman) games, will have its premiere at the Comic-Con International: San Diego convention on July 20. Dentsu Entertainment USA (Monsuno, LBX) revealed in April 2017 that the series will premiere on Cartoon Network in 2018 or later.
CAPCOM will release the Mega Man 11 game for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on October 2 in North America and October 4 in Japan.
