Digimon Designer Draws Olympic Skating Gold Medalist Hanyu
posted on by Jennifer Sherman
Yuzuru Hanyu became the first man in 66 years to win two consecutive Olympic gold medals in men's singles figure skating earlier this month. Around the time of his win, he also reportedly said that the #1 song he uses for moral support before competitions is Kōji Wada's "Kaze," an insert song in the Digimon Tamers anime. Due to Hanyu's apparent fondness for the series, Digimon card designer Kenji Watanabe drew Hanyu on a fancy paper board and posted a pictured of it on Twitter on Wednesday.

In the image, Hanyu appears with several Digimon characters. Additionally, the board includes a message congratulating Hanyu on his second individual Olympic gold win.
Hanyu is a known fan of Tokyo Ghoul and other anime. Tokyo Ghoul manga creator Sui Ishida also posted a celebratory illustration of Hanyu shortly after his recent Olympic triumph.
Famous creators have been offering their own illustrations of Hanyu since at least 2014, when the skater won his first Olympic gold in Sochi. Fire Punch manga creator Tatsuki Fujimoto, artist Yoshitaka Amano (Final Fantasy series, Vampire Hunter D), character designer Akemi Takada (Urusei Yatsura, Creamy Mami), and manga creator Kousuke Fujishima (Ah My Goddess) previously contributed likenesses of Hanyu.
