Pacific Rim Uprising Video Makes Japanese Debut at Mazinger Z: Infinity Screening Event
posted on by Jennifer Sherman
A special video for the Pacific Rim Uprising film will make its Japanese debut at the ”Daizekkyō Ōen Jōei-kai with Mizuki Ichiro" (Big Shout Cheering Screening Event With Ichirō Mizuki event at United Cinemas Toyosu in Tokyo on February 4. The event will feature a special 4DX screening of the Mazinger Z: Infinity (Gekijōban Mazinger Z / Infinity) film with a musical performance by anime song legend Ichirō Mizuki.
Fans will have to wait until the event to find out the details of the Pacific Rim Uprising video, but Toei began streaming a Mazinger Z: Infinity promotional video alongside the announcement. The video features clips from the anime, Mizuki's performance, cast event clips, and a glimpse of Pacific Rim Uprising director Guillermo del Toro with Mazinger Z creator Gō Nagai.
In addition to Mizuki, the anime's producer Hiroshi Kanemaru will appear. At this special event, fans are also allowed to shout, cheer, sing, and bring light sticks to the screening. Fans are encouraged to sing along with Mizuki. Attendees will receive an A4-size deluxe portrait of Koji Kabuto and Mazinger Z drawn by mechanical designer Takayuki Yanase and character designer Hiroya Iijima.
With the 4DX systems, certain theaters have motion seats that move in sync with certain action sequences onscreen. Similarly, effects such as scents, wind, and mist operate in accordance with the action onscreen.
Other theaters throughout Japan will have fan-participation 4DX and 2D screenings of the film in early February. However, Mizuki and Kanemaru will only appear at the event at United Cinemas Toyosu on February 4.
Mizuki is returning to the Mazinger Z franchise to perform the "Mazinger Z / Infinity Version" song for the film. A "special message video" with comments from Mizuki and other staff members debuted earlier this month.
The film opened in Japan on January 13. Viz Media will screen the film theatrically in the United States on February 11-12. The 12th Rome Film Fest hosted the world premiere of the film in Italy on October 28.
The Pacific Rim Uprising will open on March 23 after a delay, and it will open in April in Japan.
