Junji Ito 'Collection' Wants Your Blood
posted on by Lynzee Loveridge
The horrifying new anime series based on the manga works of Junji Ito is out for blood, and we mean real blood.
The series is collaborating with Kanagawa Prefecture Red Cross Blood Center to raise blood donations starting on January 6. Participants willing to take a needle will get a clear file featuring the series' key art of gruesome villains. The key art also replaces the original text with the phrases "I really want to go to a blood donation [center]" and "I'll give you my blood."
Junji Ito "Collection" premieres on January 5 and Crunchyroll will stream the series as it airs in Japan.
The anime will adapt stories from both the 11-volume Itō Junji Kessaku-shū (Junji Ito Masterpiece Collection) series and the Fragments of Horror book. The site will not reveal which stories will be adapted, so that viewers will be surprised. The key visual and the trailer show the following Ito works: "Soichi's Selfish Curse," "Fashion Model," "Slug Woman," "Further Tales of Oshikiri," and "The Beautiful Boy of the Crossroads."
Blood donation centers in Japan collaborate with anime frequently, usually with special clear files or posters. Girls und Panzer, Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress, Wixoss, and Please tell me! Galko-chan have all appeared for various blood drive campaigns.
