Yuri Katsuki Gets His Birthday Wish as Official Karatsu Ambassador

City's mayor recognized Yuri!!! on Ice for bringing in over 40,000 tourists

Yesterday was everyone's favorite tasty katsudon boy's birthday. Fans across Twitter and other social media platforms celebrated Yūri Katsuki's birthday with fan art and congratulatory messages, but perhaps the best gift Yuri received was an official endorsement from the city of Karatsu in Saga Prefecture. The town served as the basis for the fictional Hasetsu, Yūri's home town in Yuri!!! on Ice, and the city has embraced the fandom with multiple tourism campaigns.

On Wednesday, Karatsu's mayor appeared as a special guest during a scheduled pilgrimage tour to celebrate not only the character's birthday, but the over 40,000 tourists that the tours have brought to the area so far. During the festivities, the mayor announced that Yūri Katsuki is an official ambassador for Karatsu.

Yūri's birthday well-wishers on social media included the anime's official Twitter account, series co-creator and original character designer Mitsurou Kubo, Yūri Katsuki's voice actor Toshiyuki Toyonaga, Victor Nikiforov voice actor Junichi Suwabe, Sara Crispino's voice actress Marika Minase, figure production company MegaHouse, and Good Smile Company's Kaho-tan.
