Full-Size Gundam Unicorn Opens on September 24

The life-size RX-78-2 Gundam statue in Odaiba made its last stand in March to make way for The Gundam Base Tokyo complex and the 1/1-scale RX-0 Unicorn Gundam.
The Gundam.info website updated with new details about the statue's successor on Wednesday. Gundam fans can look forward to seeing the mecha in all its glory starting on September 24. The "TWC ver." (Tokyo Waterfront City version) of the Unicorn Gundam will be able to transform from "Unicorn mode" to "Destroy mode," luminesce from 50 different areas, and have functional hatches, joints, and changing facial expressions.
Mechanical designer Hajime Katoki is designing a new decal for the full-scale mecha. The statue measures 19.7 meters high (64.6ft) and weigh 49 tons.
The September opening will also include the popular "Wall-G" collaboration with the statue. The newly opened Gundam Trailer Shop will have merchandise for sale and an AR app to use with designated photo areas will also launch earlier on August 26. Visitors can head to the site early to get professional photos taken.
The statue will be the site of the "Tokyo Meeting" international exchange event in October.
