Dedicated Fan Travels 77 Hours to Get to Comiket — By Bike
posted on by Lynzee Loveridge
What's the furthest you've ever traveled to attend a convention? Even if it was across the country, you probably bought a plane ticket or at the very least drove. Twitter user DJ_Flandere decided to travel to this summer's Comiket by manpower only. He set off on his bike from Aichi prefecture toward Tokyo Big Sight on August 8 and shared his adventures along the way. His journey round trip will take him 760km (472mi).
He initially had some problems staying on route and got lost multiple times, traveling 52km (30mi) in four hours. He said he got lost in Toyota and was being lazy.

The weather was also hot, a fact that he would share multiple times as his skin became increasingly tan.

He reached 100km (62mi) by the next day and crossed over into Shizuoka Prefecture where he took a beachside route through Hamamatsu stopping to rest at a net cafe.

He then moved on to Kakegawa, Shizuoka where he got lost again. The area was also a challenge thanks to the mountainous terrain. DJ_Flandre admitted that he hates Japan National Route 1 thanks to the trip.

The battle of the last 100km brought him through mountainous Hakone, where he was beset by both rain and fog and eventually darkness before reaching Hakone-Yumoto Station.

箱根登りきったは良かったんだけど迷子になった上に山のスピリチュアル感がクソ怖いのと夜の山暗いし危ないし雨降ってるしで半べそですがだいぶ降りてきて箱根湯本駅までなんとか辿り着きました。かなり街中なのでここまで来たらもう安心かなぁという感じです pic.twitter.com/0Ntus4UFRF

He reached Yokohama at 3 p.m. on August 11, unfortunately his delays caused him to miss the first day of Comiket.

He finally reached Tokyo that same day after 77 hours of traveling. Netizens followed DJ_Flandre's story with excitement. He gained nearly 3,000 followers over the course of his ride and some even met him at his check in locations to offer him food and well wishes for the journey. We'll have to see how his return trip goes, although no one would blame him for just taking the train.
