Cipher's Minako Narita Celebrates 40 Year Career Anniversary

Manga creator Minako Narita debuted on the scene 40 years ago at the age of 17 with the manga series Miki & Uti in LaLa magazine. North American readers are probably most familiar with Narita's series Cipher, a bombastic 80s extravaganza about twins that swap places with one another at school and work. The manga was adapted into a mostly musical OAV of sorts.
Publisher Hakusensha celebrated Narita's milestone by reprinting a color posters from her Alien Street and Cipher manga The April issue of Melody published on Tuesday includes the Alien Street poster that was originally included in April 1984's issue of LaLa. One side includes an image of the main character Sharl and the other side features Therem. The June issue released on April 28 will contain the Cipher poster and a reprint of the first chapter with the original color pages.
The publisher is also planning a 40th anniversary event.
Narita is currently serializing Hana Yori mo Hana no Gotoku in Melody magazine. The manga has sold over two million copies and follows young men studying Noh music.
