Ai Yazawa Draws NANA Playing Cards, Cross-Over Mini-Manga
posted on by Lynzee Loveridge
The January issue of Shueisha's Cookie magazine will be an oversized issue and bundle some new work by NANA creator Ai Yazawa. The magazine will have a double cover with artwork by both Yazawa and Taiyō ga Miteiru (Kamo Shirenaikara) creator Ryo Ikuemi.
The issue will also bundle a deck of NANA playing cards and a mini-manga by Yazawa featuring characters from her series Tenshi Nanka ja Nai and Gokinjō Monogatari. The Cookie Twitter account shared a frame from the manga that appears to show NANA character Yasushi Takagi.
The January issue of Cookie magazine will go on sale on November 26.
Yazawa put her NANA manga on hiatus in 2009 while being treated for an unspecified serious illness. She was released from the hospital in 2010 and revealed that she did not know when or if she will return to working again. She published a new "Junko's Room" chapter, her first new manga in over three years, in 2013. Last year's January issue included a NANA calendar with new images drawn by Yazawa.
