Hatsune Miku Undergoes Ballet Transformation for Isao Tomita Memorial Concerts
posted on by Amanda Ellard
Hatsune Miku switches out her usual pop style for a classic ballet look for the upcoming Dr. Coppelius concerts, a special collaboration performance series in memory of the late composer and synthesizer artist Isao Tomita. The production announcement press conference at Tokyo Yotsuya JFIC Hall Sakura on October 26 announced the news and released an image.
Also during the press conference, the staff released another teaser trailer for Dr. Coppelius that introduced the addition of 3D imaging equipment and the 3DCG ballet dancing. Choreographer Tomohiko Tsujimoto, a dancer in the first Japanese Cirque du Soleil, worked on the choreography and will dance alongside the 3DCG ballerina Miku.
Dr. Coppelius is the name of a project Tomita was working on before he passed away. The work was originally scheduled for release in November and incorporates ballet with Tomita's original synthesizer and electronic style. The Isao Tomita Special Memorial Performance: Isao Tomita x Hatsune Miku Dr. Coppelius concerts are booked at Tokyo's Bunkamura Orchard Hall for November 11 and 12. Those in charge are hoping to soon bring the Isao Tomita and Hatsune Miku collaboration overseas, as well.
