MyAnimeList, opened pre-registration for the fifth MANGAPOLO's Manga Translation Battle contest. MANGAPOLO is Dentsu's manga-sharing YouTube channel and it runs the contest with full support of Japan's Agency for Cultural Affairs.
Pre-registered contestants will be notified on September 14 with official registration begins on the website. Like previous contests, participants will be asked to select one of the three featured manga in Japanese to translate into English. The finalists' translations will be posted on the Manga Translation Battle website. The manga are Mari Okazaki's Zutto Dokushin de Iru Tsumori? (pictured right), Machio Same's Haruwa Akebono Tsukimo Nau Soramo Nao, and Takeshi Sakurai's The Right Way to Make Jump! (Jump no Tadashii Tsukurikata!).
Last year's Manga Translation Battle asked contestants to pick from Ryohei Saigan's Kamakura Monogatari, Ryōsuke Tomoe's Museum, Keiichi Arawi's Nichijō, and Yōko Kamio's The Crown of Thorn.
Judges include Deb Aoki, Matt Alt, Tomoko Kimura and William Flanagan. First place winners for each work will be selected some time between January to early February 2017. A single Grand Prize winner from the Individual Work Award winners will receive an invitation to attend the award ceremony in Tokyo and a MacBook Air. Individual Work Award winners will receive an Apple Watch.
The contest's goal is for the Digital Comic Association to provide aspiring manga translators with opportunities to debut as professionals.
This is the first time MyAnimeList has ever hosted the Manga Translation Battle.
