A new collaboration between sportswear company Mizuno and the upcoming soccer anime DAYS has been announced. It will include Seiseki High School uniforms and spiked cleats from the characters Tsukushi Tsukamoto and Mizuki Hisahito. In order to promote the collaboration, the voice actors from the show were gathered and photographed wearing the sponsored uniforms.
The company Mizuno, founded in 1906, deals with a wide range of sportswear, including equipment for track and field, baseball, volleyball, and tennis. They have been receptive to collaborations with sports anime, with past projects including Ace of Diamond and Major related gear. Their previously produced Ace of Diamond sports glasses were so popular that they sold out online in only 15 minutes.
Tsukushi Tsukamoto's cleats are top of the line Morelia Neo II's, a new model released this month. On the other hand, Mizuki Hisahito's cleats are the popular Morelia II's, which were released in 1985 and have remained best-sellers for more than 30 years. Kengō Nakamura of the Japanese soccer team Kawasaki Frontale is one of many professional soccer players that continue to use this model. Morelia II's are available for sale internationally, while the new Morelia Neo II's are still limited to Japan.
The voice actors that gathered to try on the uniforms started with Takuto Yoshinaga, who plays the protagonist, Tsukushi Tsukamoto, and included Yoshitsugu Matsuoka, Katsuyuki Konishi, Daisuke Namikawa, Hiro Shimono, Suzune Okabe, Daisuke Ono, Hiroyuki Yoshino, Toshiyuki Toyonaga, Shōhei Komatsu, Junta Terashima, Daiki Hamano, Kaito Ishikawa, Mamoru Miyano, Hiroki Yasumoto, Takahiro Sakurai, and Yūya Murakami. In total, 17 people were present.
Tsuyoshi Yasuda's DAYS manga, which began in April 2013, continues to be serialized in Weekly Shōnen Magazine. In Japan, 17 separate manga volumes have been published by Kodansha, with total number of copies printed surpassing 3,000,000. The manga is not yet available outside of Japan. The story follows Tsukushi Tsukamoto, who is shy and clumsy, and Jin Kazama, an isolated soccer genius. After their fateful meeting on a stormy night, Tsukushi is dragged into the insane world of high school soccer.
An anime adaptation was announced in January of 2016 and will begin airing in Japan on July on MBS. It will also air on Tokyo MX, BS11, and Animax. The official website for DAYS has announced various information about the show, including the theme songs and cast.
