Kantō Crowns 2015's Hottest High School Boy
posted on by Eric Stimson
On July 28, Ryō Saruwatari (pictured below) was officially proclaimed the Hottest High School Boy in Japan's Kantō region. He won the Grand Prix at the Kantō High School Mister Con 2015, a contest held to determine the high school boy in the Tokyo area with the best looks. Saruwatari was surprised when his name was called, saying, "I'm glad because I really didn't think I'd get this far."
The second-place winner was Tsubasa Ikeda (below right).
The contest had received over a thousand entries, which were narrowed down to 34 through a document review and interview process. These semifinalists were further narrowed to 7 (although an additional boy was added on the 28th) based on their number of online votes, supportive tweets, retweets, profile views, staff votes, and total points awarded based on the previous categories. The winners were announced as part of the Uniform High School Festival 2015, which was held at Shibuya DUO, a music venue.
The contest was organized by Samurai ELO, a high schoolers' fashion magazine. One of its models and contest judge, Tomu Fujita, said of the finalists, "They're like brothers. We at ELO want youth. They should be cute and remind you of your little brother."
The finalists
Saruwatari and Ikeda now go on to qualify for the National High School Boys' Mister Con 2015, the first contest of this type held nationwide. Meanwhile, a Miss Con 2015 for high school girls will be held on August 13. Those finalists can be seen below.
A previous hot high school boy contest was held in March.
