World Cosplay Summit Contestants Visit Japan's Foreign Ministry
posted on by Lynzee Loveridge
Representatives from 26 countries are in Japan for the week-long World Cosplay Summit events this week. Some of the contestants — representing the Philippines, Vietnam, Portugal, and Kuwait — headed to Japan's Foreign Ministry to meet the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minoru Kiuchi. Kiuchi thanked them for coming, complimented their costumes, and observed how Japanese culture was spreading around the world. He was particularly excited by Kuwait's delegation, the first one to represent West Asia. The cosplayers then each expressed their gratitude for being able to come and visit Japan and interact with other cosplayers from various countries.
The festival's opening ceremonies took place at Laguna Ten Bosch in Gamagori City on July 25. The week's worth of events include a cosplay night, performances to commemorate the Meiji-Mura 50 year anniversary, a red carpet walk, the competition itself, and a parade. Additionally, the site is hosting the World Karaoke Grand Prix, Nagoya Anison Festival 2015, and NikiNiko Cosplay Collection. Voice actors Haruka Tomatsu and Tomokazu Sugita are attending the events as special guests.
Participating countries include Australia, Brazil, China, Germany, Denmark, Spain, Finland, France, U.K., Indonesia, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Mexico, Malaysia, The Netherlands, Russia, Singapore, Thailand, United States, Hong Kong, Taiwan, The Philippines, Vietnam, Portugal, and Kuwait. Canada and Sweden are observing the event.
