Upcoming Manga Cafe in Shibuya Boasts Enormous Collection
posted on by Carlos Cadorniga
Shibuya residents can look forward to a new hangout joint in the form of the upcoming manga cafe, Trigger (no relation to Studio Trigger).
Within a calm atmosphere, the new cafe will house more than 4,000 manga for patrons to choose from and read leisurely. Customers can choose from several titles, including recent works and even older and rarer works one normally wouldn't find in a store. The cafe will also host various events such as meeting famous manga artists, new book releases, and even events for fans to get together.
The menu itself is even influenced by various manga, including the Flower Salmon Toast based on Hana no Zubora-Meshi. Trigger is set to open on June 17.
The concept of Trigger came from infamous Japanese entrepreneur Takafumi Horie, currently the head of "HONZ", a Japanese book recommendation website; subsequently, he heads the manga branch known as "MangaHONZ", which offers both recommendations and reviews of various manga. The cafe itself was supported via a crowd-funding service known as FAAVO, which raised over 12.6 million yen for the cafe (about US$104,000).
