Something Isn't Quite Right With This Levi Figure

posted on by Chris Nishijima
Levi's normally aggravated expression becomes even more disgruntled.

Reality can often turn out to be different from one's expectations. Those in the fan community are by no means exempt from that rule. But that doesn't mean that those who are disappointed have to stay quiet. A recent topic of discussion among Japanese Twitter users has been the looks of a certain figure of Attack on Titan's Levi. What started as one artist's attempt at figuring out what happened to her design has turned into a full-on web debate topic.

After seeing the final outcome of the figure, whose original product design she was in charge of, Twitter user @yuna_slo couldn't help but notice that something was different with the looks of the ever-stoic Levi. Despite the fact that Yuna had gone over the design with the product's quality check team and given her final okay on the photograph that she was given, on the day of the release, she was shocked to find that the figures that made it into customer hands were completely different. In response, to the amount of fans who also noticed the issue, she posted an image of the actual figure, alongside the original promotional image for comparison purposes.

Meanwhile, Twitter users were voicing their thoughts on the subject as well. While some were defending Yuna, who at the time seemed to be overwhelmed with how to respond to her followers who had originally been looking forward to the figure, others found the entire thing to be laughable. Twitter user @ecomadcs Tweeted, "I don't even know how to comeback at this," while user @touhouproject53 said, "It's so suspicious, it's bootleg level."

While some also claim to have seen the original depiction of the figure on store shelves, the Japanese Amazon listing for the product from PULCHRA has become flooded with 1-star reviews pointing out the discrepancies between the prototype and the final version. Perhaps those reviews can account for the fact that it is available online for 2,919 yen (about US $24.37) as opposed to its original price tag of 12,001 yen (about US $100.19). That being said, the fans' response to this figure doesn't seem unwarranted. Even Levi himself looks disgruntled over his final appearance.
