Space Brothers Collaborates with Daichi-2 Satellite
posted on by Lynzee Loveridge
The upcoming Uchū Kyōdai #0 (Space Brothers #0, pronounced "Number Zero") film is collaborating with a real satellite launch this month. The Advanced Land Observing Satellite-2 "ALOS-2" (or DAICHI-2) will take to the distant skies on May 24, and Hibito (voiced by KENN) and Mutta (voiced by Hiroaki Hirata) will offer words of support in a special video.
The satellite is a follow-up on the first "DAICHI" launch, which completed its mission in 2011. The new satellite will help with mapping areas of Earth and monitor for potential natural disasters.
The launch will be streamed live on niconico, and will air on multiple terrestrial television stations in Japan. Museums and science centers across the country will hold public viewings, too.
JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency) posted an English-language video in November explaining the satellite's mission and abilities:
The Space Brothers film will open in theaters in Japan on August 9.
