Japanese Study Guide App Mixes Manga and Anime
posted on by Lynzee Loveridge
Osaka-based company Wao Corp. has put together a new app for foreigners looking to study Japanese. The Android and iOS application takes original manga and animated sequences to deliver a new way to learn Japanese.
The JLPT Prep N4&N5 app follows Australian protagonist Emma as she goes about her day-to-day life in Japan. The app teaches 500 everyday phrases with 60 minutes of animation and over two hours of lessons. The app unlocks new features and players are able to collect anime character cards throughout the game for successfully completing lessons and answering questions.
"JLPT Prep" refers to the Japanese Language Proficiency Test, the largest-scale Japanese-language test in the world. It is sometimes used in employment screenings, evaluations for promotions, and pay raises for non-native Japanese speakers.
The app first went on sale in July and is now offered in over 80 countries and is downloaded at 1,000 times per week.
