Smell Grilled Meats... On Your Phone!
posted on by Bamboo Dong
Why eat meat if you can just... smell it? Through your phone? Software developer Kayac and hardware company ChatPerf, in partnership with the latter's Scentee app, have teamed up to deliver the scent of grilled meats... through your phone.
Called "Hana Yakiniku," this attachment plugs into the headphone jack of your iPhone and delivers three mouth-watering (we hope, anyway) scents: short ribs, beef tongue, and buttered potato.
The idea is that you would smell the sizzling, juicy taste of short ribs, and be satisfied instead with whatever it is you're eating, like plain white rice, or a plate of lettuce.
It's scheduled for release in Japan on November 15 for 3,480 yen ($35), and will be available through the company websites and Amazon. The app will be available for free through the Apple App Store on the same day. The app runs on iOS 6.1.4 or later.
Earlier this year, ChatPerf released another scent-producing add-on, also using the Scentee app, that lets you send smells to contacts. Luckily, you can't send them noxious smells, but you can send the soothing scents of rose, coconut, lavender, cinnamon roll, coffee, and others using different cartridges.
Thanks to Lucas for the tip!
