posted on by Egan Loo
Director Spike Lee presented the first one-sheet poster for his remake of Chan-wook Park's live-action Oldboy film on Monday. The film's Facebook page also posted some teaser images before the debut of the first trailer on Wednesday:
Park's film is itself an adaptation of Garon Tsuchiya and Nobuaki Minegishi's Old Boy manga, which follows a man seeking the kidnapper who imprisoned him for years.
Lee shot his remake with Josh Brolin (Milk, Men in Black 3), actress Elizabeth Olsen (Silent House, Martha Marcy May Marlene), Sharlto Copley (District 9, The A-Team), Samuel L. Jackson (Jungle Fever, Pulp Fiction, The Avengers), and James Ransone (Sinister, Inside Man, The Next Three Days) last fall. The production company FilmDistrict describes the new version's story:
Oldboy follows the story of an advertising executive (Josh Brolin) who is kidnapped and held hostage for 20 years in solitary confinement without any indication of his captor's motive. When he is inexplicably released, he embarks on an obsessive mission to discover who orchestrated his bizarre and torturous punishment only to find he is still trapped in a web of conspiracy and torment. His quest for revenge leads him into an ill-fated relationship with a young social worker (Elizabeth Olsen) and ultimately to an illusive man (Sharlto Copley) who allegedly holds the key to his salvation.
The film will open in North America on October 25.
