Studio recreates "Ultimate" bentō in 3D so real thing can be eaten

Metal Gear game series developer Hideo Kojima reported that his Kojima Production studio wanted to preserve Sony Computer Entertaiment's exquisite Metal Gear 25th Anniversary bentō lunch box sample so it can be eaten. Sō Kojima Production did the next best thing — the staff scanned the bentō in 3D and then recreated it in loving detail as a normal bump map in the studio's 3D Fox Engine project.

Kojima added that it only took about two hours to create these images from the 3D scan. The team already recreated the meeting room backdrop earlier this year.

Sony Computer Entertainment unveiled their Final Fantasy and Metal Gear "Ultimate Character Bentō" (Kyūkyoku no Chara Ben) lunch boxes for the 25th anniversary of both the Final Fantasy and Metal Gear video game franchises earlier this week.
