Resident Evil's Online Service Revealed in Capcom Video
posted on by Egan Loo
CAPCOM began streaming a video to outline ResidentEvil.net, its new online service for gamers, on Tuesday. The service will be available for free, starting with the upcoming Resident Evil 6 game.
The service will offer each player a personal website that lists statistics such as accomplishments, as well as the status of friends. The service will provide Facebook and Twitter updates, and CAPCOM is also developing a smartphone app for the service. A copy of the Resident Evil 6 game will be needed to create the account. The service will also feature exclusive unlockable content and online community challenges. Users will receive a "championship belt" for winning one of these challenges. In addition, points accumulated while participating in these challenges or accessing other parts of the site can be used to purchase rewards such as costumes and figures.
Resident Evil 6 was slated to ship for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in North America and Europe on November 20 and in Japan on November 22. However, CAPCOM moved up the release to October 2 in North America and Europe and October 4 in Japan. A personal computer version is also planned.
