posted on by Andrew Osmond
The British SF/fantasy magazine SFX has published a special issue, The Top 100 Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films of All Time, as voted for by readers on the magazine's website. According to the magazine, around 10,000 readers voted, and six anime films made the list. They were:
79th place: Castle in the Sky, directed by Hayao Miyazaki
70th place: Nausicaä of the Valley of Wind, directed by Hayao Miyazaki
66th place: Ghost in the Shell, directed by Mamoru Oshii
(This is the first Ghost in the Shell film, although the entry wrongly shows stills from Oshii's sequel, Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence.)
42nd place: Howl's Moving Castle, directed by Hayao Miyazaki
33rd place: Akira, directed by Katsuhiro Ōtomo
32nd place: Spirited Away, directed by Hayao Miyazaki
(For comparison, the other animated films in the poll were Shrek at 89, Toy Story 2 at 77, Who Framed Roger Rabbit at 73, The Incredibles at 59, and Wall-E at 29. The largely-animated Avatar was ranked 26th.
The SFX special issue (not to be confused with the regular magazine) is priced at £7.99.
