Yakuza Arrested for Scalping Sanrio Theme Park Tickets
posted on by Egan Loo
Police in Tokyo arrested Kao Iwata, a 46-year-old member of the Yamamoto-gumi yakuza organization, this week on suspicion of reselling complimentary tickets to the Sanrio Puroland theme park. Iwata allegedly attempted to sell the 12 passes, which were given to Sanrio shareholders, for 2,500 yen (about US$32) each at a parking lot near the park. Two officers dressed as a couple arrested Iwata after he reportedly called out to the male officer with an offer for the tickets on Sunday at about 11:10 a.m.
According to the police, Iwata said under deposition that he received the passes from an acquaintance and thought he could use them to cover living expenses since he has no income. The park is located on the western outskirts of Tokyo and features attractions inspired by Hello Kitty and other Sanrio mascots.
