Toy, Game Makers Hold Free Kids' Event in Quake-Hit Sendai
posted on by Jennifer Sherman
The Japan Toy Association, Sendai University, and the town of Shibata are hosting the 2011 Tohoku Child Fair in Miyagi Prefecture on October 8 and 9. The free fair will provide kids' activities including sports and character appearances in order to lift the spirits of children affected by the Great Eastern Japan Earthquake. Many Japanese toy and game companies are supporting the event through the Japan Toy Association.
The children's fair will be divided into toy, sports, and festival areas. Characters from Anpanman, Ultraman, and other franchises will appear and perform in stage shows. Events will include construction of a giant Lego building with the help of 2,000 children and simulation golf coached by famous players. The toy area will include games intended for boys, girls, and babies with Beyblade, Bakugan, Hyper Yo-yo, Duel Masters, Vanguard, and other anime and toy franchise games.
Many other events have been held this year to help children in the earthquake-hit northeastern region of Japan. A group of anime song artists gathered at an event to benefit the affected children in May. Ultraman and pop group AKB48 appeared at a donation ceremony on September 16. Many musical performers and voice actors will also perform at a charity event at the end of October.
