posted on by Daryl Bunao
While the North American anime community is raising money for relief efforts for Japan, Tokyopop CEO Stu Levy has been volunteering to bring supplies to those affected by the March 11 earthquake (Tōhoku Chihō Taiheiyō-oki Jishin) and tsunami.
Levy posted about his volunteer efforts on Twitter this past week, and he provided a short, firsthand perspective of the damages caused by the tragedy.
Waiting for my instructions. Hope to be of use. (@ JR 飯田橋駅 w/ 2 others) http://4sq.com/gHugvF
On my way to Sendai for emergency aid. Highway empty closed to normal traffic. Eerie. http://yfrog.com/hscrbgaj
Just arrived at mtg point. Sendai looks ok but we're now west (Rikuzen-Takasugo). No power, pitch black in the rain. Sirens. Heading west...
Visited one of the shelters tonite. No power, just a few straw candles. 2 days ago each child had only one potato chip to eat.
Sleeping in truck's cab tonite. Under a cracked highway, trying to keep supplies protected from the rain. 7:30 AM delivery to the shelter
Lean On Me plays on the radio as the snow falls down here in Sendai. Too many people dead. Too many people homeless.
Hard to get cell phone reception at the shelter. Will check in later.
