TinierMe Hosts Black Butler, Second Life Hosts Laputa
posted on by Gia Manry
Funimation and online "virtual world" TinierMe have announced a partnership for the promotion of Funimation's Black Butler and Black Butler II anime releases. For the duration of the promotion, TinierMe users can purchase limited-edition Black Butler-branded items for their avatars, including clothing and hairstyles. Fans of the series will also be able to connect through unspecified means. TinierMe also recently promoted virtual idol Hatsune Miku in a similar fashion.
In the press release regarding the announcement, TinierMe CEO Masaru Ohnogi stated that the company plans to bring more anime-related content in the future, while Funimation director of acquisitions and licensing Adam Zehner addressed Funimation's plans to "move aggressively into the digital space."
In a separate development, a user of the Second Life virtual world named Robinn Magic has recreated shots from the Studio Ghibli film Laputa: Castle in the Sky within the game. Users of the Second Life game may visit this URL in-game to see the homage, including the film's titular floating island; a video of it is also streaming via YouTube.
