Attack on Titan Anime's Finale to Differ 'a Little' From Original Manga's
posted on by Egan Loo
Attack on Titan manga creator Hajime Isayama confirmed in a message posted on Wednesday that the final scenes in the anime adaptation will have slight differences from the manga. He said that he asked to redraw the storyboard thumbnails for the final scenes "a little bit." He expressed his apologies and gratitude to the anime studio MAPPA for their difficulties in adapting the story finale.
Isayama previewed the rough thumbnail layout draft for the manga's final panel in the documentary program Jōnetsu Tairiku in November 2018. However, he and Kodansha did not publish the manga's finale until April 9, 2021.
The Attack on Titan Final Season THE FINAL CHAPTERS (Shingeki no Kyojin The Final Season Kanketsu-hen) Part 2 anime finale will premiere this Saturday, November 4, on the NHK General channel at 24:00 (effectively, November 5 at midnight JST or November 4 at 11:00 a.m. EDT). Crunchyroll and Hulu will stream the finale. The finale will be 85 minutes long.
Hajime Isayama launched the original Attack on Titan manga in Kodansha's Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine in 2009, and ended the series in April 2021. The manga's 34th and final volume shipped in June 2021. Kodansha USA Publishing released the manga in English digitally and in print, and released the 34th volume in October 2021.
The first television anime season premiered in April 2013, and the second season premiered in April 2017. The first part of the third season premiered in July 2018, and the second half premiered in April 2019.
The Attack on Titan The Final Season anime premiered on NHK in December 2020 and aired for 16 episodes. Funimation and Crunchyroll both streamed the anime with English subtitles. Adult Swim's Toonami programming block began airing the anime in January 2021, and Funimation began streaming an English dub in the same month.
Attack on Titan The Final Season Part 2 premiered with episode 76 on the NHK General channel in January 2022, and aired for 12 episodes. Crunchyroll and Funimation streamed the second part as it aired in Japan.
The first part of Attack on Titan Final Season THE FINAL CHAPTERS aired as a one-hour special on March 3. Crunchyroll streamed the anime under the title Attack on Titan Final Season THE FINAL CHAPTERS Special 1. The anime is also streaming on Hulu. Toonami aired the first part on September 9. SIM returned to perform a new theme song, "Under the Tree." (The Japanese title for Attack on Titan The Final Season Part 3 is Shingeki no Kyojin The Final Season Kanketsu-hen Zenpen, which indicates it as the first half, and the Japanese title for Part 4 is Shingeki no Kyojin The Final Season Kanketsu-hen Kōhen, which indicates it as the second half.)
