Naruto (manga)

When Naruto first goes to perform the Sexy no Jutsu, he places a leaf on his head. It disappears in the next panel, possibly suggesting it flew off, or was forgotten about. The reason for the leaf is speculated (as placing leaves and other things on foreheads are a reference to kitsune and tanuki playing tricks), however since a similar action later appears in the series, it may be for concentration.
Sasuke actually appears in the manga before his official appearance and introduction! He's sitting behind Naruto on page 12 of the first chapter, complete with the pose he is often found sitting in the next two chapters after his introduction.
On the first page that we see Tenten in the series, she has a symbol on her back. On the next page, this symbol is no longer there.
Masashi Kishimoto created Naruto with the concept of "the image that other countries have of Japan."
