Heavy Metal L-Gaim (TV)

A lot of the ideas presented in this series became the basis for Mamoru Nagano's "Five Star Stories."

Specifically, the hero and heroine of the series -- Daba Myroad and Fannellia Amu -- were replicated almost intact as Colus VI and Daizina Mestner in the third volume of the Five Star Stories. Similarly, their opponent Oldna Poseidal became the Five Star Stories villain Upandla Raymu -- the two characters are nearly identical in both appearance and concept.

While they weren't replicated as exactly as some of the series' character designs, several mecha designs from L-Gaim re-appear in the Five Star Stories under the same names. These include the Auge, A-Toll, Helmine, Blood Temple, Ashura Temple, and others. The L-Gaim itself, of course, bears a striking resemblance to the Junchoon piloted by Colus III and Colus VI in the Five Star Stories (not to mention the famous Hyaku-Shiki from Zeta Gundam).
