Bottles throughout Episode 9 have labels which include references to the Lost Universe OST and Hajime Kanzaka's other work, Slayers.

In "Toilet Fears," there is a toy Sword of Light (from Slayers) in Kane's toybox, and on the toybox itself are several stickers referencing to Slayers.

Lost Universe takes place before Slayers TRY, where Dark Star and Volphied were merged and destroyed everything in their universe.

The original novels (by Hajime Kanzaka) and anime of Lost Universe are different. The novels have Dark Star and Volphied as the AIs of Lost Ships, who were only named after the dark lord and god, but not related. The anime has Dark Star and Volphied as the dark lord and god themselves.

In a poll by a popular Japanese anime magazine, Lost Universe was rated the number two anime of 1998.
