At the Miss Countryside contest in the beginning of the film, a background character wears a jacket that reads "Beautiful Life Tomino", a reference to Gundam co-creator Yoshiyuki Tomino.
Carozzo "Iron Mask" Ronah's character is based on the famous Star Wars villain Darth Vader. This makes Gundam's connection with Star Wars even more. Iron Mask is a cyber Newtype while Darth Vader is a cyber Sith and both have powers. Also Iron Mask and Darth Vader are half man and more machine.
This is the only Gundam feature to be given a rating by the Motion Picture Association of America. It is rated PG-13 for pervasive sci-fi violence.
The instrumental arrangements to the ending song "Eternal Wind ~ Hohoemi wa Hikaru Kaze no Naka" bears a striking resemblance to Wilson Phillips' "Hold On".
