Retailer Listing For Kemono Friends Guidebook Suggests Possible 2nd Anime Season (Updated)
posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda
Japanese online bookstore Honya Club is listing the fifth official guidebook for the Kemono Friends anime with a thumbnail picture that shows the book's wraparound jacket band. The words on the wraparound band suggest that a second season is in the works for the anime, although the words could also mean that a second installment in another part of the franchise (such as a game or stage play) is also in the works.
Amazon is listing the guidebook with a release date of Wednesday, July 26, although Amazon's listing doesn't feature the same wraparound band.
The 12-episode Kemono Friends television anime premiered on TV Tokyo and TV Osaka on January 10 and ended on March 28. Crunchyroll streamed the series as it aired.
The anime is getting "original content" on TV Tokyo's new AniTele app, which launched on April 1. The staff for the anime announced a "new screen project" for Kemono Friends in March. The anime received an unofficial "episode 12.1" that was not part of the new screen project.
The franchise received a stage play adaptation that ran on June 16-18, and will get a second run on January 13-21, 2018. Bushiroad is developing multiple Kemono Friends games, including a brand-new game for smartphones slated for this summer.
Yen Press has licensed Furai's manga adaptation.
Nexon's original app game launched in early 2016 and ended service on December 14 — before the anime even premiered. Nexon announced in February that the app would not return despite the anime's popularity, but a spokesperson for Nexon later stated that the return of the smartphone app "is possible." In the RPG, animals around the world have transformed into girls and players could recruit them into their party for battle.
Update: Although the words on the thumbnail image seem to suggest a second season for the anime, the words could also mean that a second installment in another part of the franchise (such as a game or stage play) is also in the works.
