Indonesian Film Censorship Board Lists Shin Godzilla, 36th Doraemon Film

The Indonesian Film Censorship Board registered the Doraemon the Movie: Nobita and the Birth of Japan 2016 (Eiga Doraemon Shin Nobita no Nihon Tanjō) and the Shin Godzilla (Godzilla Resurgence) films on Monday. The entry indicates that PT. Sumber Usaha Film Indonesia applied for the registration.
Shin Godzilla opened on 441 screens in its opening weekend in Japan on July 29, earning 624,610,700 yen (about US$6.08 million) and selling 412,302 tickets during the weekend. The film topped the Japanese box office for two straight weeks, but fell to #2 in its third week, and #3 in its fifth week.
The film has earned 5.3 billion yen (about US$51.63 million) and has sold 3.6 million tickets. The film has surpassed the earnings of director Hideaki Anno's previous film, Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo. Shin Godzilla represents the latest in TOHO's film series after a 12-year absence since 2004's Godzilla: Final Wars.
Doraemon the Movie: Nobita and the Birth of Japan 2016 is the 36th film in the Doraemon franchise, and the 11th and highest earning film in the new Doraemon film series. The film earned more than 4.037 billion yen (about US$37.7 million). The film sold about 3,559,400 tickets in the 62-day period from its opening on March 5 to May 5.
The film is a remake of the Doraemon: Nobita no Nihon Tanjō (Doraemon: Nobita at the Birth of Japan) film, which originally opened in Japan in March 1989. In the film's story, Nobita comes up with the idea of running away from home because he is always being scolded at home and at school. Additionally, Gian, Shizuka, and Suneo all have their own reasons for running away from home. Together with Doraemon, they all travel through time to the Japan of 70,000 years ago.
