Disney Reveals Wreck-It Ralph Sequel Planned for March 2018

Walt Disney Animation Studios announced during a Facebook Live livestream on July 1 that it is producing a sequel to its 2012 film Wreck-It Ralph. The film is slated for release on March 9, 2018, and actor John C. Reilly is returning to voice the titular protagonist
Reilly had revealed that work had begun on a sequel last year. Rich Moore, who directed the original film, will co-direct the sequel with Phil Johnston, who co-wrote the original with Jennifer Lee. Reilly said about the film's plot that "Ralph leaves the arcade, and wrecks the internet." Moore had said in 2012 that he wants to put Nintendo's Mario character in a possible sequel. Moore confirmed that Mario was absent from the original film because Moore could not find a place for Mario in the story — and not because Nintendo refused to allow Mario to be in the film.
Wreck-It Ralph debuted in 2012, starring Reilly as the titular character, an antagonist character of an arcade game who inadvertently starts a disaster that threatens all the games in the arcade. Ralph must travel between games in an attempt to fix his mistake and achieve his dream of becoming a hero.
Female pop group AKB48 performed the ending theme song "Sugar Rush" for the film, the first time an original song by a Japanese artist was used as an ending theme for the global release of a Disney film.
