Japan Expo USA 2013
Yen Press

by Lynzee Loveridge,

The Yen Press panel opened on Friday morning to a crowd of about 15 manga and light novel fans. Kurt Hassler and JuYoun Lee prepared the crowd for what turned out to be a handful of exciting announcements.

First, Hassler announced the company will release a one-volume Blood Lad spinoff manga, Bloody Brat. The manga is written by the original series' author Yūki Kodama with artwork by award-winning artist Kanato Yoshino. It's slated to ship on March 25, 2014.

After Bloody Brat, Hassler broke into new announcements. The company will publish Puella Magi Madoka Magica: The Different Story by Hanokage. The story follows an alternate chain of events from the original Madoka Magica series with a focus on Kyoko and Mami. The first of three volumes is slated to ship in early 2014.

Perhaps the biggest announcement of the panel was Yen Press' plans to release Reki Kawahara's Sword Art Online and Accel World light novels. Both light novel series inspired anime adaptations and have over 10 million copies in print in Japan. Hassler stated they intend to release the full run of the Sword Art Online light novels and have licensed at least the first four Accel World novels.

The company will also release the Sword Art Online: Aincrad and Sword Art Online: Fairy Dance manga adaptations. Sword Art Online: Aincrad is illustrated by Tamako Nakamura and is compiled into two volumes. Sword Art Online: Fairy Dance was drawn by Hazuki Tsubasa and has two collected volumes. The first volumes are slated to ship in March 2014.

The panel then broke straight to giveaways.
