The bit of news I`ve been anticipating most. Seemed like this was gonna happen with the good sales of Kizumonogatari. I just wonder if Vertical is going to be licensing the series on an individual volume basis.

Awesome. Though it's taken ages, I'm glad to see the novel officially coming over to the West.

Great news just makes you wonder why until December, I hope we get a novel every 3 to 4 months and not one every year or I'll get old enough to start buying them for my children and not for my self.

My guess is, it's going to be in the same boat as Kizu, where Nisio's team is directly handling the translation and binding and all that. That's why Kizu had such a long release window from it's announcement (according to Ed)

I wonder if you can even get the full experience by reading these in english. The novels are filled with so many Japanese wordplays.

That's applicable to every translation tbh - every language has a lot of subtleties which you miss out on in translation a lot of the time.If you truly want to experience a book in another language you'd have to learn it ><

Boo on Vertical! Price gouging us in a clever way by releasing three volumes.
The principle of it pisses me off, not the actual cost. I fully expect Nise, Neko, etc. to be released in this same drawn out fashion.

Why are you rushing to blame Vertical? They don't make the decisions, Japan does. And, in the case of Monogatari, Ed already said Nisio and his team is directly involved, so this is their decision, and Vertical has practically no choice but to go along if they intend to release it. I understand your frustration, but please direct it at the right people.

I do have to wonder how exactly they're going to divide the story in three volumes. Hitagi Crab and Mayoi Snail as the first, Suruga Monkey and Nadeko Snake as the second, and Tsubasa Cat as the third and last one? It just sounds kind of unnecessary.

There are going to be a lots of translation notes, probably. At least I wouldn't be surprised with that. Maybe they will make 3 volumes with 300+- pages each (knowing how big Bakemonogatari is).
My bet is that volume 1 will contain "Hitagi" and "Mayoi" arcs.

I bought Kizu and it was pretty well done. It reads like a typical YA vampire novel written if it was by David Foster Wallace. There was a pretty good amount of snark and punnery even in English. I have high hopes for the rest of it.

These are great news. I have yet to read my Kizumono book, but given the praise Nick gave to the translator of that book and the good overall grade, I'm pretty confident these books will be well produced as well (and hopefully Vofan will make original covers again. Kizumonogatari's cover looks beautiful).
Just a question to anyone who read Bakemonogatari already: Which arc is the longest of the five presented? Because I feel one of them will be one separate book (I personally think is either Hitagi crab or Tsubasa cat).
