So it's going to be a Spring show..

Judging by the length, it's a 1-cour.

I'm split on what to hope for this anime. KOF Another Day was just a promo for Maximum Impact 2, but this seems to be a series KOF anime series. The ideal concept would be to simply adapt the stories of each of the games, since SNK already established some really cool stories within the limitations of fighting games back in the day, and would later give more story by including complete backstories for each team via official websites that help explain why each one is in a specific game & what their goals are.

In order to properly adapt these stories, though, would require giving special attention to certain teams, while giving others more or less special appearances. If the anime was to actually go this route & focus on telling these actual stories then I'm all for this happening. KOF '94 & '95 (what some call the Rugal Saga) could easily be told in 12-13 episodes, for example, with the Japan Team (Kyo, Benimaru, & Daimon) being given the focus while the other teams get their moments when it makes sense to do so. There is more than enough story in the KOF series to adapt into an actual story-driven anime series.

Sadly, though, I have a strong feeling that it won't go this way. I am expecting this anime to instead make the same mistakes that most fighting game-based anime make, which is to try to shoe-horn in every single character so that everyone has a moment to shine. The end result will be way too crowded, disoriented, & completely disappointing. Unfortunately, I'm sure that this anime will go towards this direction & be nothing more than a piece of advertising that pleases no one.

I think in Japan fiscal year, that's Q1.
